A dense modal is a reading surface before it is a component. The first job is not decoration, but helping the eye understand where the content begins and where it quietly ends.
A small edge fade can soften that boundary. It reduces the feeling of a hard crop without adding another visible control or explanation.
The best version is almost invisible. If the fade announces itself, it becomes another object in the interface instead of a support for reading.
